Her husband was sentenced to five years and ten months in prison in 2017. Urdangarin spent the first years in prison in Ávila, near Madrid. In 2021 he was transferred to Zaballa Prison. This is just under 50 km from Vitoria, his hometown. Since then, he has been allowed to work due to prison relief and has looked for a job in a law firm in Vitoria.
