Kim Kardashian: Appearance with Diana’s cross pendant causes criticism

Kim Kardashian turned heads with a special accessory at the LACMA gala in Los Angeles. The reality TV star placed a necklace with a large cross pendant around her neck that Princess Diana once wore. Prince Harry and William’s mother, who died in 1997, wore the “Attallah Cross” at a charity event in London in 1987. Her friend and the then owner of the necklace, Naim Attallah (1931-2021), lent her the accessory set with amethysts and diamonds.

Kardashian purchased the royal cross pendant from jewelry manufacturer Garrard at an auction at Sotheby’s auction house in January 2023. It changed hands for 163,800 British pounds. This corresponds to a sum of around 195,000 euros. Originally the expected selling price was between 80,000 and 120,000 pounds. Kardashian prevailed over the other interested parties in a “bidding war” after five minutes. The fact that Kim Kardashian, of all people, wore Diana’s cross around her neck caused criticism online after the event.
