“Jennifer is spectacular”: Ben Affleck raves about J-Lo despite their divorce
Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck are getting divorced. In an interview, Affleck praised his estranged wife highly. But is he speaking as a husband?
They are Hollywood’s dream couple – and then not again: Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck had repeatedly made headlines as “Bennifer” and finally said yes twenty years after their first engagement. Barely two years later they are in the middle of a divorce. In an interview, Affleck still found extremely warm words for his estranged wife.
Actually, the conversation with “ET Online” was about something else. Together with his long-time favorite colleague Matt Damon and lead actor Cilian Murphy, Affleck is currently promoting the joint film “Small Things Like These”, on which Damon and Affleck worked as producers. But then he was suddenly asked about another film.
Ben Affleck: Warm praise for Jennifer Lopez
“Jennifer is spectacular,” Affleck enthuses when asked by interviewer Nischelle Turner about his wife’s acting performance in the sports drama “Unstoppable.” The sports drama, also produced by Affleck and Damon, tells the true story of Anthony Robles. Although he was born with only one leg, the wrestler fought his way to the US championship title. In the film adaptation, Lopez plays the mother of the exceptional athlete portrayed by Jharrel Jerome.
Even if one could assume that the statement was purely a promotion for the film, the praise seems to be important to Affleck. Although the question is asked openly to both producers, he speaks up immediately. The praise for Lopez comes first in a list of the team’s performance – before the real Robles and main actor Jerome. “We believed in the right people, ‘Unstoppable’ is another example of that,” he explains the recipe for the success of working with Damon.
Bennifer is over
Lopez and Affleck were considered Hollywood’s dream couple in the early 2000s, but separated in 2004 shortly before their planned wedding. After both marriages and divorces, they found each other again in 2021 and married in August 2022. In October, Lopez confirmed that the celebrity couple had separated in April and that she had filed for divorce in August – on their second wedding anniversary. “Sometimes everything goes well and sometimes it doesn’t,” she explained in an interview with comedian Nikki Glaser in Interview Magazine in October. “And that’s f***ing okay.”
