Bavarian politics meets Hollywood: Markus Söder visited the “Cliffhanger 2” set in Bavaria and took a selfie with Pierce Brosnan.
According to his own statements, Prime Minister Markus Söder (57) recently experienced “great cinema in Bavaria”. He met the former “James Bond” actor Pierce Brosnan (71), who is currently in front of the camera for his new film at the Penzing Studios near Landsberg.

Söder posted snapshots from the film set on Monday evening, including a selfie with the Hollywood star. The CSU man not only used this for a bit of personal PR, but also for a swipe at politics in Berlin. “‘Cliffhanger 2’ is currently being filmed in a breathtaking film set in the studios at the former air base. I’m a big film and cinema fan myself – and also of the gentleman actor Pierce Brosnan,” he said. And then emphasized: “With the help of the FilmTV Fund Bavaria, the Bavarian dream factory was created here in Penzing, Upper Bavaria. Bavaria stands by its film industry like no other country. It’s a shame that the federal government pays far too little attention to this important industry.”
Film is shot in Bavaria and Austria
Brosnan had already reported a few days ago: “Cliffhanger … we are now shooting in Munich and Austria. I loved the original film with the great Sylvester Stallone.” He saw the film with his son Sean after school in Malibu. “When we still had a local cinema!” And now “many years later” he is working on the sequel to the action film. He shoots with the “nicest, most beautiful and most talented actors”. Among them is Lily James (35), who published some pictures from the shoot that show her at lofty heights.
Sylvester Stallone (78) played the main role in the mountaineering film “Cliffhanger – Only the Strong Survive” from 1993. The action star was originally supposed to return for the new edition and was announced as the main protagonist. But he left the project again.
