Tom Kaulitz as “ET”: Bruises because of Halloween costume

Tom and Bill Kaulitz (35) look back on Halloween in the latest edition of their joint podcast “Kaulitz Hills – Mustard from Hollywood”. Tom famously dressed up as “ET” at his wife Heidi Klum’s (51) legendary party in New York – including an electrically controllable XXL head and huge hands. Klum wore an identical costume that only differed in a few accessories. “These costumes don’t look anything like that, but they were so uncomfortable, really,” he told his brother Bill.

The oversized ET head, which sat on top of his actual head, was the biggest challenge because of its weight. “I have bruises all over my body,” complained Kaulitz. The buildup also left marks on his forehead: “There are very small bubbles under the skin that have formed into a large pimple.” However, Tom could not hope for his brother’s sympathy. “You look like a teenager,” he said with amusement.

The rest of the Tokyo Hotel guitarist’s body was covered in prosthetics in order to perfectly represent the body shape and wrinkled skin of the alien from the classic film by Steven Spielberg (77). “When the body is completely in prostheses, it is like that […] your skin can no longer breathe. It’s like you’re suffocating,” explained Kaulitz. Using the oversized hands with a metal gripper arm was also very difficult.

That’s why he and his wife kept their appearance on the red carpet shorter than ever before. “We really thought we wouldn’t be able to do it physically,” said the musician. After the short appearance on the red carpet and a few interviews, they quickly got out of the costume.

Nevertheless, the “ET” disguise for the Tokio Hotel twins is the best costume from the past few years. “I see that and I just think I’m cute,” enthused Tom Kaulitz. He and his brother have had a soft spot for “ET” since they were children.

But brother Bill also struggled with his costume at the Halloween party. He came in a glittering bodysuit as a universe including attached planets. However, that wasn’t practical: “Unfortunately I couldn’t pee; they forgot to install a pee slot for me,” he reported. That’s why he asked a friend to help him out of the costume – but because she was drunk, she tore the outfit. “ET”, on the other hand, had an extra button placket in the crotch.

It’s not the first time that Tom Kaulitz appears as his wife Heidi Klum’s sidekick on the red carpet of her Halloween party. In recent years he has been seen as Shrek, a bloody astronaut, a fisherman or a giant egg.
