What Mickey 17 is about
Based on the novel Mickey7 of Edward Ashtonthe film follows Mickey Barnes (Robert Pattinson), an expendable: a disposable employee on a human expedition sent to colonize the frozen world of Niflheim.
Whenever there is a mission that is too dangerous, even suicidal, the crew turns to Mickey. After an iteration dies, a new body regenerates with most of its memories intact. After six deaths, Mickey understands the terms of his deal…and why it was the only open colonial position when he accepted it.
The film also stars Naomi Ackie, Steven Yeun, Toni Collette, Mark Ruffalo, Holliday Grainger and more. The film is produced by Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, Joon-Ho and Dooho Choi. Additionally, Brad Pitt, Jesse Ehrman, Peter Dodd and Marianne Jenkins served as executive producers.
The film was due to be released this year, but was delayed indefinitely due to last year’s actors and writers’ strike before reaching its now-postponed January 2025 release date.
Mickey 17 will now be released in theaters on April 18, 2025.
