Jorge Macri opened Water Week in the City of Buenos Aires

The head of the Buenos Aires government, Jorge Macri, Water Week openedwith the 1st Water Conference of the City of Buenos Aireswhich seeks to be a space for analysis and discussion on the conclusions of the recent World Forum on this topic, from a perspective focused on Latin America. During the event, they will explore resilience and adaptation strategies to climate change, highlighting regional experiences and innovative solutions.

Macri was present at the Buenos Aires government headquarters in Parque Patricios to inaugurate the event. There, he assured: “We face a reality that manifests itself with traumatic weather events increasingly intense and unpredictable, that forces us to put the issue on the agenda to articulate efforts on caring for the environment and specifically water”.

Water Week It is celebrated every year in Stockholm and in other cities around the world. On this occasion, it is the first time that the event comes to Buenos Aires.

At the opening ceremony of the conference, Macri was accompanied by the Minister of Infrastructure of the City, Pablo Bereciartua, and by the Minister of Security, Waldo Wolff. “Water policy has been an axis of our management for 16 years. We are one Coastal Cityand water is part of our identity. Buenos Aires was born on the banks of the Río de la Plata and the Matanza Riachuelo River.but that city that arose looking at the river, for a long time turned its back on it. The Water Conference will take place from November 7 to 8with the participation of foreign delegations made up of experts and specialized professionals, legislators, representatives of the World Bank and the Inter-American Development Bank, universities and study centers. “We want to integrate all the actions we have been taking in relation to water in the City: he Hydraulic Planthe most 17 hectares of coast that we recoveredand the Sanitation of the Riachuelo”.

For his part, the infrastructure minister, Pablo Bereciartuadetailed: “We seek to promote a collective commitment to the conservation and efficient management of water in all its dimensions and strengthen our responsibility with a sustainable future”.

In addition, during the meeting the Water Adaptation Plan as a tool that will accompany the current City Hydraulic Plan and that establishes the measures to reduce the risk of flooding. In detail, the Buenos Aires administration assured that the Plan covers more than 45 kilometers in lengthallowed us to improve the level of protection of neighbors and mitigate the effects caused by floods.

Buenos Aires is crossed by 11 streams from 6 basins that flow into the Río de la Plata and the Matanza-Riachuelo River. The Buenos Aires government stated that works are being carried out to channel and conduct these water courses.
