They wanted to leave the USA if Trump won

Even during Donald Trump’s first term as president, American stars wanted to leave their homeland – are they really doing that?
On November 6th, Donald Trump (78) won the presidential election. The fact that the politician was re-appointed President of the USA caused mixed reactions around the world – just as he did when he was first elected eight years ago. Even back then, numerous stars and starlets commented negatively on Trump. Some even wanted to leave the country when he was first elected. What does it look like now?
Miley Cyrus
In 2016, Miley Cyrus (31) posted an opinionated statement online: “Honestly, I’ll move if that’s my president! I don’t say things I don’t mean!” But after Trump’s victory shortly afterwards, Cyrus – contrary to what was announced – did not leave the country. She gave in a year later and described her statements in an interview with “NME” as “stupid” and “ignorant”. “This is how I let my country down,” Cyrus reflected. It is not (yet) known whether the current election results have changed anything.
Amy Schumer
Amy Schumer (43) also claimed in September 2016 that she would move if Trump became president. “My role will change because I’ll have to learn Spanish because I’ll move to Spain or somewhere else. It’s incomprehensible to me if Trump wins. It’s just too crazy,” she ranted. However, she later backtracked: “The interview in which I said that I was moving was in London and was said in jest…” So a move didn’t take place – and probably won’t now either.
Samuel L Jackson
In December 2015, Samuel L. Jackson (75) joked on the show “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” that he would move to South Africa if Trump triumphed. He probably wasn’t really serious about it either. After Trump’s victory about a year later, he wrote on X: “If you know the difference between my actual opinion and a Kimmel sketch… Maybe we can talk then.” In the end, Jackson – like his colleagues – did not implement the threats and continues to live in the USA.
Can you only rely on Cher’s word?
Back in 2015, Cher (78) made it clear on X that she was not a particularly big fan of Trump. “If he’s elected, I’m moving to Jupiter,” she tweeted in June 2015. Two years later, Trump took office for the first time, but Cher did not change location.
Could that change this time? Shortly before his re-election, the singer made it clear in an interview with “The Guardian” how poor her health was during Trump’s first term in office and that this time she was determined to leave the country. “Last time I almost got a stomach ulcer. If he comes into office, who knows? This time I will go,” she emphasized.
