Despite it being an election year, the Investment Law Enforcement Commission (Comap), dependent on the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) managed to present projects during the first three quarters whose investment exceeded the total for 2023.
The Comap, key entity for investments, It recommended initiatives to the government for a total amount of more than 1,256 million dollars between January and September, a figure higher than the more than 1,184 million for all of last year.
In September alone, the organization promoted projects for more than 208 million dollars, which speaks of a strong impulse beyond a year where Uruguay voted first in internal elections, then in general elections with two plebiscites in between and in just over three weeks it will define its next president in the 2024 runoff.
In this way, according to the report published this Friday, Comap promoted projects from hundreds of companies, with initiatives associated with different areas, such as services, commerce, industry, agriculture and tourism.
What were the investment amounts in previous years?
It is worth noting that 2023 was a year similar to 2022 in terms of the investment amounts of the projects promoted by Comap, since at that time the total was 1,194 million dollars, below 2019, when the total was 1,544 million .
On the other hand, the years marked by pandemic They were the ones with the fewest opportunities. In 2021, the total investment amount was 534 million dollars, while it was even lower in 2020, with 475 million.
Comap is a key player in attracting large investmentsin recent years, as it presents the projects to the Executive power which, if it advances, will offer tax exemptions of varying magnitude, exercising a fiscal waiver to finalize the arrival of the project.
It is worth remembering that between 2020 and 2022, a total of 3,168 investment projects were presented for 2,971 million dollars, of which 69% occurred in the interior and 31% in Montevideo.
Likewise, 46% of the initiatives received correspond to micro, small and medium enterprises, while 54% to large companies. In terms of sectors, 60% of the projects received correspond to the commerce and services sector, 25% to the industrial sector, 13% to agriculture and the remaining 2% to tourism.
