Great sadness for his wife Pia
Former national soccer player Christian Ziege mourns the loss of his wife Pia. She died a few days ago after a serious illness.
Serious blow of fate for former national soccer player Christian Ziege (52): The 1996 European champion announced the sad news on Instagram that his wife Pia Ziege had died after a long, serious illness. He shared several black and white pictures of his partner – including in the hospital bed and in the closest family circle with the three children – as well as an emotional statement.
“You will live on forever in our hearts”
“Our world has stood still since November 4th, 2024. After a long and serious illness, Pia has closed her eyes forever,” writes the ex-Bayern star. “We would like to thank everyone who walked this long and difficult journey with us, as well as for their great sympathy and compassion. Pia, you will live on forever in our hearts.”
Ziege wrote in advance: “And there are always traces of your life, thoughts, images, moments. They will remind us of you, make us happy and sad and never let us forget you.” The couple had been married since 1997 and have two children together, son Alessandro (26) and daughter Maria. Pia also brought daughter Katharina into the relationship.
Christian Ziege was part of the German national soccer team from 1993 to 2004 and became European champions with them in 1996 and second at the World Cup in 2002. During his career he played for FC Bayern Munich, AC Milan, FC Liverpool and Borussia Mönchengladbach, among others. He ended his career in 2005 after an injury.
