It is known that in the field of computing, the use of new tools, technical innovation and technological development are fundamental aspects in the race to invent more useful and attractive devices for consumers. But this device undoubtedly changed the way computers are handled, brutally simplifying their use.
It is about the Mouse, or Mouseby its English name, which allowed users to have a visible marker on the screen that will provide a totally different freedom of movement and simplified in the selection of programs. The creator of this invention was Douglas Engelbart, an engineer from Silicon Valley.

Douglas Engelbart and the invention of the mouse
Douglas Engelbart was born in Portland in 1925, and came of age in the middle of World War II. He joined the US Navy as an electronics and radar technician. After the war he studied engineering at Oregon State University. He then completed a doctorate and master’s degree at the University of California, Barkeley, where he was also an assistant professor.
Only in 1957 did he join the Stanford Research Institute (SRI) that was a decade old. From 1959 to 1977 he directed the Research Center and in 1963 he developed the concept of “Mouse”. But it wasn’t until 1968 that he finally introduced it, along with hypertext links, real-time text editing, and the use of multiple windows and teleconferencing.
Also, he showed the 3 devices he used to operate the computers, “a mouse, a keyboard and a special set of keys.”

Engelbart applied for the patent in 1967, and received a wooden hull with two metal wheels in 1970. This was an XY position indicator for the display system. He said he called it Mouse, because the wire looked like a mouse’s tail.
