Iran asked this Saturday the president-elect of USA, Donald Trump, to “change” the “maximum pressure” policy that he applied during his first term towards the Islamic Republic. “Trump must demonstrate that he is not following the erroneous policies of the past,” they declared from Tehran.
Trump must demonstrate that he does not follow the policies of his previous government, according to what he told the press Mohammad Javad ZarifIranian vice president. Zarif, who is also in charge of Strategic Affairs, is a former Minister of Foreign Affairs and was the Iranian architect of the nuclear agreement signed in 2015 between Tehran and the international community, including the United States.
However, three years later, the pact was torpedoed when Donald Trump, then president, withdrew his country from the agreement. From there, the Republican imposed severe sanctions as part of a policy of “maximum pressure” against Iran.
Furthermore, Zarif spoke out for X about the massacres in Loop and Lebanonon the part of Israel, and called the Trump administration to oppose war “as promised” as Iran “will not be swayed by threats”.
Iran’s call to the US
“As a businessman you should evaluate the pros and cons of this policy and decide whether you want to continue or change this harmful policy,” Zarif said, alluding to Trump’s business career.
Trump’s first term was also marked by his January 2020 decision to order the elimination in Iraq of powerful Iranian general Qasem Soleimaniarchitect of Iran’s regional influence strategy.
Donald Trump’s victory comes at a delicate time for Iran, immersed in the war in Gaza between Israel and the Palestinian group Hamasas well as in the conflict extended to the neighbor Lebanon against Hezbollah.
These two movements are supported financially and militarily by Tehran in its fight against the State of Israel, which Iran does not recognize.
The words of the vice president of Iran about Israel
“The American people, including the majority of Muslims, have expressed his loud and clear rejection of a shameful year of American complicity,” began the message of Iranian Vice President Mohamad Javad Zarif. There he made reference to Israel’s conflict in Gaza and Lebanon.

On his social network X, he also expressed that he hopes that “the next administrations of Donald Trump and J.D. Vance “oppose the war as they promised.” Furthermore, he called on them to lend “pay attention to the clear lesson given by the American electorate of end wars and prevent new ones.
Finally, he stressed: “Iran, having demonstrated its determination and ability to confront any aggression, will not be influenced by threats, but will be respectful.”
Iran’s supreme leader once again threatened Israel and promised to respond “toughly”
Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khameneipromised that his country will respond to attacks by Israel and the United States, against Tehran or against its allied groups in the region.
“The United States, like the Zionist regime (Israel), has to know that they will undoubtedly receive a harsh response for what they are doing against Iran, the Iranian nation and the resistance front,” Khamenei said in a speech to a group of students in Tehran.
