Carlo von Tiedemann is no longer behind the wheel. The moderator gives back his driver’s license, as he said.
Moderator Carlo von Tiedemann (81) voluntarily gave up his driving license. The 81-year-old told the newspaper: “I have no business being on the road anymore, I’m sure of that now. The driver’s license goes back to the office. That’s it for driving!” It’s not easy, “but I can handle it,” said the NDR veteran.
His wife drives him to the recordings
According to the report, the decisive factor for the decision was an accident that Carlo von Tiedemann caused last year. At that time, he began to think about “whether I should still take part in traffic. Now I think that is the best decision,” explains the radio and TV star in the “Bild” interview. His wife Julia is now driving him to the recordings, he continued. The couple has been married since 2012.
In the summer, Carlo von Tiedemann returned to the microphone five months after his absence due to illness. The NDR legend celebrated her comeback on the radio station NDR Schlager. The popular presenter started his career in the 1970s.
In the clinic for weeks because of a serious illness
The 81-year-old had recently been through a difficult time: At the beginning of the year, Carlo von Tiedemann had to go to a clinic due to a bacterial infection in his coronary arteries. In the hospital he also broke a vertebra and caught pneumonia, he explained at the time. According to his own statement in the “Bild” newspaper, von Tiedemann “just jumped the gun on death again.”
After an eight-week hospital stay, von Tiedemann was then transferred to a rehabilitation facility for four weeks before the presenter was sent to short-term inpatient care and was finally able to return home.
