The renewed Egidio Feruglio Paleontological Museum (MEF) of Trelew reopened its doors after expansion work that lasted almost a decade. The new building triples its original size and offers a permanent exhibition with unpublished fossils, a full-scale replica of Patagotitan mayorum, giant marine reptiles and an extensive collection of pterodactyls, including the impressive Thanatosdrakon.
During the inauguration ceremony, the governor Ignacio “Nacho” Torres highlighted the importance of the MEF at the local and international level. “Today the world is looking at Chubut. We have a historic opportunity to show all the good things we have and to turn the page on the years lost due to the apathy of previous governments”said Torres, pointing to the museum as “the cornerstone of a renewed Trelew.”
The new MEF includes a modern educational area with a Multipurpose Room (SUM) for recreational-educational programs and a convention center with capacity to receive up to 850 people, equipped with cutting-edge technology. In addition, interactive projections, immersive sound and new sets have been incorporated that transform the visitor’s experience.

“This museum not only houses fossils from millions of years old, but it is also a space where science, technology and the knowledge industry coexist,” added Torres, emphasizing that the new MEF represents the beginning of a stage of transformation for the province.
Among the new features, the Feruglio Cafewith a complete gastronomic offer, and the Dinoshop store, distributed over two floors, where visitors can purchase exclusive products. In addition, the museum has renewed its website, making it easier to purchase tickets, reserve guides and services, and offering a digital experience in line with the new MEF level.
Later, on his social networks, Torres said: “I had the honor of participating in the inauguration of the new Egidio Feruglio Paleontological Museum in Trelew: an institution that is already part of our identity and that completely renovated its facilities, adding new rooms, cutting-edge technology, the largest Convention Center in the Patagonia, and an important commercial and gastronomic offer for all its visitors.
“Today we can say, with enormous pride, that the new MEF is the largest and most innovative paleontological museum in the region, thus becoming the cornerstone of the many transformations that we are managing to guarantee the arrival of new investments and more work throughout the province,” he concluded.
