The original 1970 film, directed by Wolfgang Reitherman and set in the 1910s, centered on the cat Duchess and her three kittens, Berlioz, Marie and Toulouse, all heirs to the vast fortune of their elderly owner and former opera singer, Madame Adelaide Bonfamille.
Upon learning of this situation, the mansion’s butler, the Englishman Edgar Balthazar, makes the decision to kidnap the pets and abandon them in the French countryside, with the intention of remaining as the only possible recipient of the inheritance.
In this desperate situation, the animals must trust -somewhat reluctantly- in Thomas O’Malley, a stray cat who will help them get back home before Balthazar has his way.
After its premiere, “The Aristocats” -the second film by the giant Mickey Mouse after the death of Walt Disney- became a box office success and amassed earnings of more than 191 million dollars worldwide, in addition to transcending in the popular culture thanks to the repertoire of its musical sequences.
