The governor of Black River, Alberto Weretilneckand the provincial Secretary of Energy, Andrea Confinitoured the facilities of the first unconventional exploration of the Rio Negro part of Vaca Muerta.
The officials visited North Confluencethe area in charge of the company Phoenix Global Resourceswhich recently put into production the first PAD of three shale wells in the Patagonian province.
The visit, guided by the CEO of the company Pablo Bizzottohad as its main objective to tour the facilities and show the learning from this first experience, the company highlighted.

The first PAD involved drilling a vertical pilot well for data acquisition and subsequently drilling three horizontal wells with lateral branches of 3,000 meters according to the commitment assumedreaching a final depth of 6,300 meters each. These first probes were fractured with advanced high intensity stimulation techniques based on the learning curve and the results of Dead Cow at the regional level, executing a total of 135 stages.
This first exploratory PAD, which went into production in mid-October, confirms the presence of the reservoir Dead Cow at the west end of that area, with similar petrophysical and thickness characteristics to the wells executed by Phoenix in Mata Mora North. So far, production amounts to 4,000 barrels of oil per day within the flowback and well testing period.
Phoenix reported that as part of the exploratory commitment assumed for the areas of North and South Confluencewe also proceeded to record and process 228 km2 of 3D seismic, currently in the interpretation phase. “This new data acquired is fundamental for the definition of future wells in the area”they highlighted in a press release sent to Energy Report. In these two areas the Latin American company entered as a partner days ago. GeoPark Limited with a 50% participation.

“The initial results are favorable and we will continue analyzing the subsoil parameters to verify the characteristics of Vaca Muerta in the area.”. From Phoenix we are proud to be able to accompany the province in this milestone that could significantly improve the production of Río Negro and, personally as a Rio Negro native, I am very excited to be able to contribute to my province,” said Bizzotto.
This first exploratory phase is part of the commitments assumed with the province, along with the exploration of the Confluencia Sur block for an investment that exceeds US$85 million.
Currently, Phoenix has about 500 km2 of proven productivitywith a production reached of 15,500 barrels of unconventional oil. The Confluencia Sur activity is within the company’s exploratory commitments for 2025.
