Insecurity: vehicle theft grew 7% in one year

According to a private report, The vehicle theft rate increased by 7% in October 2024 compared to the previous month.

Although the armed robberies remained at similar levels to those recorded in September, the 7% increase in statistics was driven mainly by a growth in cases of theft, that is, situations in which violence is not used in the dispossession of vehicles.

The growth trend in car theft continues to be worrying so far this year, with epicenter in the Buenos Aires suburbs, especially in the western area, which concentrates five out of every ten reported thefts, according to a survey by Strix, a vehicle monitoring and security company.

The prevalence of theft as a type of crime during October shows the evolution in theft patterns. While armed robberies present a greater risk of confrontation for the vehicle owner, theft cases are usually carried out stealthily, taking advantage of opportunities such as parking in places with low security or oversights in security.

This change forces both drivers and authorities to rethink precautionary measures, monitoring in areas with a high incidence of crime and adopting new technological tools to increase resources allocated to prevention.
