Washington reunites with Ridley Scott in the Gladiator sequel after working on the 2007 film American Gangster.
Gladiator 2 arrives in theaters today and does so 25 years after the first installment did, then starring Russell Crowe and Joaquin Phoenix. The one now also has a luxury cast, which includes actors of the caliber of Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal, Connie Nielsen —who repeats his role from the first— and Denzel Washington.

During the promotion of this more than anticipated sequel, Washington revealed that they filmed a scene with a kiss between men that they have eliminated from the final footage.


To the question during an interview of “How gay is the Roman Empire?”, the interpreter responded forcefully. “In fact, I kissed a man in the movie, but they cut it, I guess they chickened out“said the actor, known for his role in Philadelphia.
“I kissed a guy on the lips and I don’t think they were ready for it.”he continued to relate. Finally, he pointed out that his character killed the other “about five minutes later.” “It’s Gladiator, it’s the kiss of death,” he concluded.

“I have very few movies left to make that interest meand I have to be inspired by the filmmaker, and Ridley inspired me a lot,” Washington told Empire. “We had a great first opportunity [en American Gangster]and here we are.”
Washington’s same-sex kiss wasn’t the only kiss of its kind that was removed. Paul Mescal said that a kiss between his character and Pedro Pascal’s character was also removed.
