After the controversial vote against the rights of indigenous peoples at the United Nations (UN), Argentina was the only country to reject a resolution in the international organization to “intensify efforts to eliminate all forms of violence against women and girls”which obtained 170 votes in favor and 13 abstentions.
This vote comes after the dismissal of former Foreign Minister Diana Mondino and the announcement of an “audit” of diplomats to check which ones accompany the “ideas of freedom” raised by President Javier Milei.
With its vote, Javier Milei’s government differentiated itself from the United States and Israel, two of its main international allies, who made up the group of 170 countries that supported the initiative. Among those who abstained are Russia, Nicaragua, Iran and Senegal.
