At the 75th edition of the Berlinale next year, US director Todd Haynes will head the international jury.
The director, producer and screenwriter Todd Haynes (63) will head the Berlinale’s international jury for the upcoming edition. Those responsible announced this today, November 14th.
Todd Haynes: “A gifted screenwriter and director”
Haynes, who was born in Los Angeles, is “a gifted screenwriter and director with an impressive range – his work is stylistically diverse but also unmistakable,” Berlinale director Tricia Tuttle is quoted as saying in a press release. And further: “Since his debut film ‘Poison’ (1991) won the Teddy Award, the Berlinale has followed and loved his film work. We are overjoyed to have him as President of the International Jury for our 75th edition.”
Haynes’ feature film debut was followed by works such as “Velvet Goldmine”, the four-time Oscar-nominated feature film “So Far from Heaven” with Julianne Moore (63) and Dennis Quaid (70) and “May December”. The 63-year-old is one of the important representatives of the “New Queer Cinema”. The statement describes him as one of the “boldest and most distinctive” filmmakers in US cinema. Haynes has the ability to “create complex characters” and is, among other things, “respected for his fascinating investigations into gender and identity.”
Haynes is the successor to actress Lupita Nyong’o (41), who took over the management this year and, according to US reports, will star in Christopher Nolan’s (54) latest film. The 75th Berlin International Film Festival will take place from February 13th to 23rd, 2025.
