Pop legend Cher has won Giovanni Zarrella for a musical Christmas project. The virtual applause followed promptly.
What an honor: Giovanni Zarrella (46) sings together with world star Cher (78). The German-Italian musician contributed to the remake of her last year’s song. In it, Zarrella sings about the magic of Christmas Night: “Questa notte fa così bene perché / Tutto il mondo è unito da una luce che / Riesce a brillare, solo a Natale”, which translates as: “This night feels so good because the whole world is united by a light that shines only at Christmas.”
The singer revealed to the news agency spot on news how Cher and Zarrella’s Christmas collaboration came about: “Fortunately, Cher and I are on the same label (Warner Music) and we were asked by both sides if we would like to do a duet with them each other can introduce themselves.” Zarrella didn’t have to think about it for long; he “of course said yes straight away.” He goes on to explain his admiration for the pop star: “To be able to work with this global icon is a great honor for me.”
Cher applauded Zarrella virtually
Despite the shared song, a personal meeting has not yet taken place. Zarrella recorded his Italian verse in Germany and sent it to Cher and her team. The feedback came quickly: “There was spontaneous ‘virtual applause’, so Cher seems to like my voice,” says the musician happily. And hopes for a personal encounter: “We’ll definitely do that soon, preferably on the ‘Giovanni Zarrella Show’.”
The busy musician and presenter has already had several world stars with whom he has shared a microphone. Before Cher, however, these were always men: Michael Bublé (49), James Blunt (50), Ronan Keating (47) … “For whatever reason, there is still a small imbalance at the moment,” says Zarrella this balance sheet. “We obviously have to make this more balanced: I would love to share a stage with Céline Dion, Mariah Carey, Adele or even Pink and Beyoncé.” But his absolute dream would be to “sing a duet with the coolest guy in the universe: Adriano Celentano.”
New album “Universo” is coming in April 2025
Zarrella has another gift in store for his fans: his new album “Universo” will be released on April 25th next year. With this, he travels back to the heyday of Italo-Disco-Pop in the 80s and presents self-written songs for the first time, as his label announces. In addition, Zarrella and her band will be hosting the “Italian Summer Night” on nine dates in Germany from June to September.
