Josh Brolin has an unusual addiction: He constantly chews on nicotine pouches – even in his sleep.
Josh Brolin (56) sleeps with nicotine pouches in his mouth, he confessed. He has now left cigarettes and chewing tobacco behind. Even lozenges with nicotine were no longer a solution after he developed cavities on seven teeth. He now chews on nicotine pouches 24 hours a day.
Nicotine pouches are small, tobacco-free pouches filled with products containing nicotine. For example, you put it under your upper or lower lip, where the nicotine enters the circulation through the oral mucosa. With Brolin, apparently around the clock: “My wife hears this in the middle of the night,” Brolin said in the podcast, imitating his chewing noises. “I don’t even know I’m doing it, I’m sleeping. I have a pouch in my lip and, I’m not going to lie, it’s 24 hours a day.”
Adventures on the black market
The bags are now “everywhere in the house,” Brolin explains. However, his addiction can become difficult when traveling. While filming in Jordan, Brolin reports that he slowly ran out of supplies. “And [dieser Typ] comes up to me and says: ‘I have something’. And there’s a skull on it… And they’re 40 milligram packets.”
However, the high dosage was too violent even for Brolin: “I put the thing in my mouth, no longer, I swear to my children, no longer than 20 seconds, and I had to cancel dinner that night. I… Literally shit my brains out. It was fucking crazy.” He then spent $300 on the black market to get his standard product with the usual dosage.
Two lives in one
The “Dune” actor speaks openly about how he deals with addiction. Brolin also reported on his alcohol addiction in another podcast in September. His excesses often ended with him waking up on the sidewalk and not knowing where his car was. It was only a realization at the age of 45 on his grandmother’s deathbed that made him rethink: “I asked myself if I had one half of life one way and the other half of life another way. Then I can live two lives and not just one.”
