For the 30th time, the Golden Hen has been awarded to stars from music, film and sport. Everyday heroes were also honored.
Peter Maffay, Roland Kaiser and Inka Bause are among the winners of the Golden Hen 2024. The media prize was awarded for the 30th time on Friday evening in Leipzig. In the anniversary live show, a total of eleven hens were awarded to stars from music, film, entertainment and sports as well as to everyday heroes. The show was moderated by Florian Silbereisen and Barbara Schöneberger. The Golden Hen is awarded jointly by MDR and the magazine “Super Illu”.
Four audience awards went to entertainer Inka Bause, Olympic swimming champion Lukas Märtens, actress Karoline Herfurth and singer Wincent Weiss. In her acceptance speech, Inka Bause appealed to the organizers to preserve the Golden Hen – even if austerity constraints were becoming ever greater. The winners and the region need this prize.
Honorary awards for Maffay and Kaiser
Seven honorary prizes were also awarded, including in the music category to Roland Kaiser. The singer and composer Peter Maffay was honored with a Golden Hen for his life’s work. In the charity category, the Saxony Wish Cart, which grants seriously ill people a final wish, was honored.
The Golden Hen is a sculpture cast from bronze. According to the organizers, a total of 280 hens have been handed over since the prize was founded. The record winner is Helene Fischer, who has won eight awards. This is followed by Wolfgang Stumph with six hens and Carmen Nebel with four trophies.
The award was originally created to specifically honor East German artists. The organizers now see it as a nationwide audience award. The prize is named after the nickname “Henne” of the entertainer Helga Hahnemann (1937-1991), who was popular in the GDR.
