According to a report from Micaela Mallorca For the Institute, the data were obtained at 5-minute intervals with an SBE38 thermometer installed at the Coastal Observations Station (EOC), of the Naval Hydrography Service located at the Fishermen’s Club Pier.


To validate the observations, they are compared with weekly measurements at the North Escollera dock (X), and with the climatological monthly average value (dashed line) and the monthly quartiles Q1 and Q3 (blue and red lines) calculated with the acquired records. in the EOC between January 2013 to date.

The surface water temperature during the month of October 2024 averaged 15.3°Cincreased throughout the month from the minimum of 12.2°C recorded on day 3 to the maximum of 18.3°C on day 22, corresponding to the increase in surface air temperature.
Temperatures were higher than the climatological average value (14.0°C) for almost the entire month, exceeding 25% of the highest values in the series from day 13 (Q3=14.9°C).
Comparing the main monthly statistics for this month of 2022 with those calculated from the complete record of the EOC series (2013 to the present), the increase in records stands out, with deviations of at least 1.1°C and except for the deviation standard.

In October 2024, absolute maximum values for the month were recorded in the monthly average (15.3°C) and maximum (18.3°C) values.
