Elton John has gushed about being a father to two sons in a new interview. It is “the greatest gift you can have.”
Elton John (77) shares his children Zachary (13) and Elijah (11) with his husband David Furnish (62). The “Candle in the Wind” interpreter, who has won five Grammys, raved about the joys of late fatherhood during an appearance to host Andy Cohen (56). When Cohen asked John about becoming a late father, much like himself, the star said, “It’s the greatest thing I’ve ever done.”
Elton John swore off the rock star life for his sons
John continued: “For me personally, I’ve had an amazing life, a great career, incredible achievements, music, blah, blah, blah, but I would say that our sons and David are the most important things to me.”
John also cites his children as the reason “why I got away from touring so I could spend the last part of my life being there for them.”
Applause for LGBTQ+ parents
In the conversation, John also spoke about being a father as a member of the LGBTQ+ community. He said: “I think anyone who is gay and raising a child deserves applause because there are so many people who say that shouldn’t happen.”
“For all the other people out there who are gay and have their own children, it’s the greatest gift you can have,” John continued. He has “never received a better gift in his life and wouldn’t exchange it for anything.”
