Eva Longoria has contradicted media reports that she turned her back on her home country because of the outcome of the US election.
Various media outlets recently reported that “Desperate Housewives” star Eva Longoria (49) had allegedly left her country of birth, the United States, due to the re-election of US President Donald Trump (78). However, after Longoria made it clear to the US “Marie Claire” a few days ago that she had already lived in Spain and Mexico in recent years, the actress now became clearer again. “Please tell them I didn’t move from the United States because of President-elect Donald Trump,” she said in a podcast.
Eva Longoria describes herself as “a proud American”
The clarification came when Longoria called her friend Ana Navarro (52), one of the hosts of the popular US afternoon talk show “The View”. At the time of the call she was recording the “Behind the Table” podcast for the TV show.
Directed directly into the audio broadcast, Longoria emphasized: “I worked in Europe for three years.” Referring to her statements in Marie Claire, she added: “That’s what it says in the article by the way. People just grabbed some clickbait to divide. That makes me so sad that everything you say is just that serves to divide, although we cannot be like that at the moment.”
The Texan-born woman left the USA “not because of the political environment,” but is working in Catalonia and Spain on her Apple TV+ series “Land of Women” and in Mexico for her documentary series “Searching for Mexico.”
She continued: “I am a proud American. I have always been a proud American. Proud Texan, proud American.” She doesn’t want “people to think I left because of Trump – absolutely not – or because of the election.”
