Maria Furtwängler talks about filming her new film “Until Truth”. A masturbation scene became a challenge.
The popular “Tatort” detective Maria Furtwängler (58) appears in one of her bravest roles to date in the first on Wednesday (November 20th). In the television film “Until Truth” Furtwängler embodies a wife and mother of a pubescent daughter who is raped by her best friend’s son (“Maxton Hall” star Damian Hardung, 26) while on family vacation. In an interview with “Bild am Sonntag”, Furtwängler spoke about the challenging filming.
Maria Furtwängler about her own experiences
“I think many women know the situation very well: they are taken by surprise and suddenly find themselves at the mercy of an attack,” explains Furtwängler. She can also remember “situations in which my boundaries were violated and in which I did not react as I would have liked in retrospect.”
This happened to Furtwängler “a few times in a professional context.” She points out: “But most rapists are not the dangerous strangers who jump out of the bushes in the dark, so that you immediately feel extreme danger.” Rather, they are “people with whom you interact in a relaxed, casual and perhaps flirtatious way.” The people would come from the “immediate environment”, as is also shown in “Until the Truth”.
Taboo subject female masturbation
But filming the new ARD television film Furtwängler presented challenges in another respect. Her character Martina also masturbates in front of the camera in the work by director Saralisa Volm (39).
“Filming it wasn’t easy and it took a lot of effort for me,” explains the wife of publisher Hubert Burda (84). “I think a woman who masturbates is seen much less often on German television than a man who masturbates. And certainly not at my age.”
The first broadcasts “Until the Truth” on November 20th at 8:15 p.m. The work, based on a script by Lena Fakler (34), will then be available in the ARD media library.
