The US Postal Service is honoring Betty White with its own stamp. The TV legend died at the end of 2021 at the age of 99.
The American TV icon Betty White (1922-2021) will be honored posthumously with her own stamp. , the actress and comedian, who died in 2021, is part of the new stamp series for the coming year 2025. “An icon of American television, Betty White delighted viewers with her wit and warmth for seven decades,” says the official Notice from the US Postal Service. The actress was also valued throughout her life for her commitment to animal protection, it goes on to say.
The stamp features a digitally edited portrait of the actress based on a 2010 photo by photographer Kwaku Alston. USPS art director Greg Breeding was responsible for the design, while freelance artist Dale Stephanos created the digital illustration.
Long career from radio to TV
Betty White passed away on December 31, 2021 at the age of 99, just weeks before her 100th birthday. The Emmy winner is best known for her roles as Rose Nylund in “Golden Girls” (1985-1992) and Sue Ann Nivens in “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” (1970-1977).
With the so-called Forever stamp, the postal service in the United States is continuing the long tradition of honoring important American personalities. In addition to White, the late musician and songwriter Allen Toussaint (1938-2015) will also be honored with his own stamp in the Black Heritage Collection in 2025.
“This first look at our 2025 stamp program demonstrates our commitment to a diverse selection of motifs and designs,” said Lisa Bobb-Semple, director of the USPS Stamp Division. Additional stamps are expected to be announced in the coming months, including images of the Appalachian Trail, the U.S. flag and winter landscapes.
