Sean “Diddy” Combs is said to have tried to influence witnesses while in custody. The public prosecutor’s office refuses to release him.
The imprisoned musician Sean “Diddy” Combs (55) is apparently leaving no stone unturned to torpedo the investigation against him – not even behind prison walls. As the public prosecutor’s office explained in a letter submitted on Friday evening, the fallen music mogul is said to have systematically circumvented the surveillance measures in custody in order to be able to continue to influence the proceedings.
The investigators accuse the rapper of systematically circumventing surveillance measures in custody. He is said to have used the telephone accounts of at least eight fellow prisoners in order to be able to communicate externally without being observed. Payment was made via middlemen. Combs also used an unauthorized system to send “hundreds of text messages” to dozens of people – including those who were not on his approved contact list.
Targeted influencing of the public
“While attempting to circumvent law enforcement surveillance, the defendant, among other things, orchestrated social media campaigns to influence potential jurors,” the prosecutor’s letter continued. He also deliberately leaked material to the public that could be useful in his defense.
With the new allegations, investigators are responding to a renewed request from Combs’ lawyers for release on bail. Two previous applications had already been rejected by the judges. The defense team is now arguing with new information that would supposedly refute the prosecution’s allegations. However, the investigators see this as just a “repetition of arguments that have already been rejected.”
The case made headlines in September when Combs was arrested on suspicion of human trafficking, gang-related crime and prostitution. The musician has denied all allegations. Last year, several civil lawsuits alleging sexual assault were filed against him. He also denies these allegations.
A spokesman for the defense team declined to comment on the new allegations when asked. The next court date is scheduled for next Friday. Meanwhile, the investigations against the music mogul continue. As CNN reported at the end of October, a grand jury meets regularly to review additional evidence. The trial is expected to begin in May 2025. If convicted, Combs faces life in prison.
