For the holiday, 1.4 million tourists traveled around the country and spent 6,233 million

During the last long weekend, 1.4 million tourists traveled through the country and spent $196,233 million. Despite this, The number of people who traveled was 2.3% lower than that of the same weekend in 2022 (in 2023 it coincided with the presidential elections). Besides, There were shorter trips than in October and a lot of searching for celebrations or activities when choosing the destination.

According to data from the Argentine Confederation of Medium Enterprises (CAME), the Day of National Sovereignty mobilized 1.4 million tourists in Argentina, who spent $196,233 million in the cities that are part of the national tourist circuit.

Compared to the same weekend in 2022 (last year there was the presidential runoff) 2.3% fewer tourists traveled and spent, overall, 9.8% more in real terms. “This is explained because families are spending more money on recreation and are choosing higher category accommodations,” they explained.

The last long weekend before the start of the summer season was notable for a powerful offer of sporting, cultural and gastronomic events which turned out to be a reason in itself to choose a destination and travel.

Each tourist spent an average of $70,083 per day, which at real prices is 23.6% higher than the daily expenditure in 2022while the average stay was 2 days (vs. 2.2 days in 2022). Transfers were made to short distance points, which allowed shorter stays.

“Although there are no figures on this phenomenon, the qualitative survey shows that the result would have been better if it were not for the fact that the exchange rate, less favorable with neighboring countries, encouraged more trips abroad, mainly Chile and Brazil“, they determined.

Among the busiest cities were: Mendoza, Mar del Plata, Cariló, Mar de las Pampas, Tandil, General Belgrano, Carlos Paz, Esteros del Iberá, San Rafael, Salta, Bariloche, Puerto Madryn, El Calafate, Puerto Iguazú, CABA, Concordia and Federación.

So far this year there have been six long weekends, where 11.2 million tourists traveled and spent $1.8 billion. If compared to 2022, which had a similar holiday structure, the number of people who mobilized remained the same, but Total spending grew 18% at real prices.

This increase is influenced by the fact that the first part of that year the quarantine continued in several districts, so people chose nearby destinations and were cautious in shared activities.
