Jennifer Love Hewitt has revealed something incredible: apparently the press knew about the death of her mother Patricia Mae in 2012 before she did.

Actress Jennifer Love Hewitt (45, “I Know What You Did Last Summer”) reported on a surreal experience that happened twelve years ago. On June 12, 2012, her mother Patricia Mae died of complications from cancer. As if the loss of a parent wasn’t traumatic enough, due to unfortunate circumstances, Hewitt only found out about her own mother’s death after the press. The star now revealed that.

At an event to mark the release of her new book “Inheriting Magic”, which will be published in the USA on December 10th, she said: “One thing that I didn’t write in the book is the fact that the press was in front of me knew about my mother’s death.” She was on a long-haul flight when the tragedy occurred: “It was a ten and a half hour long flight. When I finally arrived, everyone already knew about it and it was such an absurd situation for me.”

It took Hewitt a while to come to terms with it. But then she realized that as a public figure you have to be aware that you sometimes end up in situations like this: “Even during breakups, people said things like, ‘He’s cheated on you before.’ Really, guys? Why didn’t you tell me this sooner?”

Her new film also deals with the loss

In addition to her book, the actress also dedicated her new film “The Holiday Junkie” to her mother. In the Christmas film, she not only plays the lead role alongside her husband Brian Hallisay (46), but also directed and took on the role of executive producer.

The film’s theme also has to do with her mother: “The Holiday Junkie” is about a woman (Hewitt) who is facing her first Christmas without her mother. In her loneliness she meets a man (Hallisay) who recently had to cope with a serious loss himself. “As much of a holiday junkie as I am, I find Christmas without my mother incredibly difficult,” said Hewitt of the personal experience that went into her film.
