In New Jersey, a rest stop was supposed to be named after Bruce Springsteen. The musician declined this offer, however.
On the Garden State Parkway, rest stops are named after famous New Jersey characters. A star from the US state apparently waived this honor. “Bruce Springsteen respectfully declined to have a rest stop named after him,”. One reason why the 71-year-old musician does not want to be part of the action was not given.
Other stars to be honored at the motorway stops are actor James Gandolfini (1961-2013), singer Whitney Houston (1963-2012), musician Jon Bon Jovi (59), author Judy Blume (83), singer Celia Cruz (1925-2003), singer Frank Sinatra (1915-1998), writer Toni Morrison (1931-2019), journalist Connie Chung (74) and baseball star Larry Doby (1923-2003). In exhibitions at the rest stops, posters of the stars are to be seen and reminders of their lives and work.
