Nicole Kidman is struggling with the loss of both parents. She revealed this in a new interview.

Her father died ten years ago, and Nicole Kidman (57) also lost her mother in September. In an interview with GQ magazine, which was published on Monday, November 18th, she explained how much she is struggling with the death of her parents.

The Oscar winner’s father, Dr. Antony Kidman (1938-2014), tragically died in September 2014 in a fall while visiting her sister Antonia (54) in Singapore. Ten years later, in September 2024, Nicole Kidman also had to say goodbye to her mother Janelle Ann Kidman (1940-2024). She received the sad news in Venice, where she was to be honored as best actress at the film festival for her erotic thriller “Babygirl” (in German cinemas from January 30, 2025). She canceled the award ceremony at short notice and said: “I’m in shock.”

Kidman and her mother were close and completed many events together. In January 2022, the Oscar winner revealed in the “Fresh Air” podcast that her mother was ill and that she wanted to take more care of her.

“It hits you when you get older”

Saying goodbye forever seems to be a challenge for the successful actress. “So life is, phew. It’s definitely a journey,” she told GQ. “And it hits you as you get older. It’s like waking up at 3 a.m. crying and gasping for air. If you’re into it and you don’t numb yourself to it. And I’m into it. Totally into it.”

The older she gets, the more emotions she feels. “Mortality. Connection. Life comes and hits you. And losing parents and raising children and marriage and all the things that make you a fully sentient human being. I’ve been in all of those situations.” Because while she mourns her parents, she and her husband Keith Urban (57) also have to ensure that their teenage daughters Sunday (16) and Faith (13) continue to grow up well.

In an interview with Vanity Fair magazine that appeared on November 13, Kidman remembered her late mother as her shining role model. “She was my compass in a way.”
