Comedy, sports, gaming: In Cologne the social media industry celebrates itself and awards its Oscars. There is also a “traitor” among those honored.
The German social media industry has chosen the best creators of the year at the VideoDays Festival Awards Gala in Cologne. Among the award winners is actor Helge Mark (30) in the “Comedy” category. The Tiktok star can currently be seen in the RTL show “Die Verräter”. Extreme athlete Arda Saatci received the award in the “Sports” category. This year the Berliner ran from his hometown to New York’s Times Square – over 3,000 kilometers.
“This year’s winners created something that was outstanding in an industry that is becoming ever larger and more dynamic. There is an ever-increasing fight for attention. They have managed to set themselves apart,” said co-organizer Tobias Schiwek from the media company We Are Era from the German Press Agency.
Prizes for ultra runners and podcasters
The German-Kurdish comedian Tahsim Durgun was named Creator of the Year. He became best known for a satirical video about the AfD’s deportation plans.
Twitch star Zarbex from Schleswig-Holstein won two awards at the awards ceremony in front of 750 guests – in the “Gaming” and “Streaming” categories. The Tiktoker and podcaster Kim Viktoria Koch, better known as “kimisinamood”, received the audience award and activist Fabian Grischkat received an award for social responsibility.
At the self-proclaimed “Oscars of the social media industry”, which lasted surprisingly long at almost three hours, a total of 19 prizes were awarded by an expert jury. Previously, at the VideoDays Festival, content creators networked with players in the creative and media industries – such as producers, media houses and agencies.
