The mother of the slain camerawoman Halyna Hutchins will not be at the “Rust” premiere. She makes serious accusations against Alec Baldwin.
Olga Solovey, the mother of the slain “Rust” camerawoman Halyna Hutchins (1979-2021), will not attend the film’s premiere. She justifies this with Alec Baldwin’s (66) handling of her daughter’s death, which “intensifies my pain.”
“It was always my hope to meet my daughter in Poland to see her work come to life on screen,” in a statement to the US industry magazine. “Unfortunately, that was taken away from me when Alec Baldwin fired his gun and killed my daughter.”
“Rust” will premiere at the Camerimage International Film Festival in Poland on Wednesday (November 20), more than three years after the tragic accident on the set of the Western. Baldwin – the film’s leading actor and producer – fired a revolver that was accidentally loaded with live ammunition during filming in October 2021. The camerawoman Halyna Hutchins died and the director Joel Souza (51) was injured in the tragedy. As previously announced, Alec Baldwin will not be personally present at the film’s premiere in Poland.
“Still no justice”
“Alec Baldwin increases my pain by refusing to apologize to me and accept responsibility for her death,” Solovey’s statement continued, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Instead, he’s trying to profit from Hutchins’ death. “This is why I refuse to participate in the festival promoting ‘Rust,’ especially now when there is still no justice for my daughter.”
Baldwin’s involuntary manslaughter trial was dismissed in July due to a procedural error. The film’s master-at-arms, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, is currently serving an 18-month prison sentence after a jury found her guilty of involuntary manslaughter in March.
Gloria Allred, 83, an attorney for Hutchins’ family, also told The Hollywood Reporter: “The decision not to even call the family to apologize is cruel and dishonoring to Halyna and her memory. Now it has been decided “To market ‘Rust’ to buyers to make a profit for Alec Baldwin and others who played a role in Halyna’s death.” The family cannot support this.
