Senate seeks to recognize the services of therapeutic assistants

At a meeting of the Health Commission, a new right to humanized childbirth was ruled and a project to prevent obesity was debated.

Ten days after the close of the ordinary sessions, the Health Commission of the Senate of the Nation called for a new meeting to discuss three projects: professionalization of therapeutic assistantsthe inclusion of a new guarantee within the framework of the humanized birth law and the creation of a program to prevention and treatment of obesity.

The first of these projects, which obtained half sanction in Deputies in 2023was the only one that involved a bureaucratic disagreement in the meeting. The discussion arose because the proposal that seeks to sanction the Professional Practice and Regulation of the Activity of the Therapeutic Companion It was sent to the Labor Commission, so the Health Commission could only advance in a plenary session that also involved it.

The owner of the space, the Catamarca woman Lucía Corpacci (Union for the Homeland) he asked the senator from Córdoba Carmen Álvarez Rivero (PRO) -member of Health and president of Labor- to give priority to treatment. “They had a month and a half to take it to a decision but now it seems that they are persecuting me so that I do it. It is in their hands,” complained Álvarez Rivero. “If you put it in your hands, let’s agree,” Corpacci replied.

The porteña also intervened Guadalupe Tagliaferri (PRO) who recognized that “it is true that there was imprudence on the part of us as senators in not forming the Health Commission, It would not be such an urgent problem if there were not a resolution from the national government that leaves us without the benefit“and explained that “social works and prepaid companies are telling families today that they have someone with a disability that They cannot give them a therapeutic assistant“.

The project details the need for a process of “training, qualification and inclusion as a professional” for therapeutic companions that “will contemplate both the clinical and therapeutic areas as well as the community social areas.” In addition, it determines that only those registered in the Registration of Therapeutic Companions with their respective enabling registration by the National Ministry of Health and who have an official training degree issued by Argentine or foreign institutions.

Obesity and respected childbirth

During the day, it was decided to include a new guarantee for people who give birth, within the framework of the Law No. 25,929 on Humanized Childbirth. To the eleven requirements that must be applied in the process, other rights that are added for mothers imply “To be informed about the biological and psychophysical consequences of childbirth in order to allow a respected postpartum and decide on ways to recover from these consequences.” The initiative was presented by the Chaco senator María Inés Pilatti Vergara (Union for the Homeland).
