When it comes to raising children, Dirk Nowitzki is from the “old school,” as he now reveals. His kids have to go without one item.
Even people who don’t know much about basketball know Dirk Nowitzki (46). The likeable Würzburger is not only a member of the Basketball Hall of Fame, but also a successful advertising face and a welcome TV guest – even on topics that are not related to basketball. Nowitzki will be seen as part of the NFL broadcast on RTL (Sunday, 7:00 p.m.) and the NFL Thanksgiving Games next Thursday (November 28, 6:00 p.m.) on Nitro. In the course of this, the 46-year-old also spoke in the RTL/ntv interview about his three children’s enthusiasm for sports – and what they still have to do without because of their “old school” dad.
None of his children born between 2013 and 2016 have yet played basketball. “But in tennis everyone is there and plays tournaments. They do quite well and it’s fun.” His two sons Max and Morris also play soccer, and daughter Malaika still tries gymnastics and volleyball.
This is taboo for now
However, Nowitzki fans will not see anything about his children’s sporting ambitions on the Internet. “I keep the children completely out of social media. These are great platforms to support your issues such as the work of the foundation and to say something funny here and there. But I don’t have to post something there every day. That’s not me, that’s what I do I’m still too old school.”
That’s also the reason why none of his children have a cell phone yet. “We’re still trying to keep our children away from the influence of social media,” the star gives a rare insight into his co-parenting methods with his wife Jessica Olsson.
This seems to suit daughter Malaika anyway. Because she obviously doesn’t like the attention she receives every now and then because of her famous father. “When I took her to school, she would ask me to stay outside. She also started crying once when I was asked to take pictures. She’s just a little shyer.”
