Suddenly Alfred Hitchcock is walking through Los Angeles. Which Hollywood star turned into the master of suspense – and why?
The make-up department of the successful and controversial Netflix series “Monster” has once again done a great job. Filming is currently taking place in downtown Los Angeles for the third season of the anthology series, which will revolve around the villain Ed Gein after Jeffrey Dahmer and the Menendez brothers. Anyone who happened to walk past the edge of the set during breaks in filming might have rubbed their eyes in surprise: Was Alfred Hitchcock (1899-1980) walking past?
In fact, the famous suspense filmmaker will appear in the series. In addition to the atrocities of the murderer and grave robber Gein, portrayed by Charlie Hunnam (44), the third season will also shed light on how they served as inspiration for Hitchcock’s masterpiece “Psycho”. But who is behind the artificial nose, the silicone double chin and the thinning hair?
It’s the British actor Tom Hollander (57)! Many film fans may know him as the villain Cutler Beckett from the “Pirates of the Caribbean” films, who took on Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp, 61). But Hollander has also appeared in “Pride and Advantage”, “Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation” and “The Night Manager”.
Hitchcock with cell phone
In the footage from the “Monster” shoot, the star visibly seems to feel comfortable in the legendary director’s skin. When he wasn’t puffing on his cigar in style, as Hitchcock did throughout his life, he was taking photos of the set with his smartphone during breaks in filming and in full gear. Hitchcock with cell phone – an entertaining sight, .
In addition to Hollander and Hunnam, Laurie Metcalf (69) and Olivia Williams (56), among others, will also star in the third edition of Ryan Murphy’s (59) series. The “Roseanne” actress plays the murderer’s mother. Williams, currently seen in the sci-fi series “Dune: Prophecy,” plays Hitchcock’s wife Alma.
An exact release date for the third “Monster” season has not yet been set. But it should end up on the streaming service Netflix next year.
