The letter, which bears the signature of the general secretary of the UTA, Roberto Carlos Fernandezdetails: ”For a long time, the concessionaire companies of Urban Passenger Transport Services, both of Provincial and Municipal jurisdiction, face a critical situation as a result of the lack of recognition of the costs necessary to operate, which must be covered with rates and subsidies.”
”Our organization has maintained a tolerant position regarding the right of workers to receive their salaries in a timely manner, especially considering that said income represents basic food support, for more than 20,000 families in the AMBA area, under provincial jurisdiction. (more than 80 thousand people located in different points, in the most socially vulnerable areas)”, they expanded.
On the threshold of a new ”social conflict”
Under this line, they were concerned since “The business chambers” informed them “many companies will not be able to pay the salaries corresponding to the month of December, nor the bonus and vacations.”. As they explained, it is because “its costs have been repeatedly calculated incorrectly.”
”Mr. Governor, as you understand, if this situation materializes, We would be facing a conflict of a social nature, which must be avoided. Therefore, we request your urgent and direct intervention in this matter.convinced that it is the only possible way to resolve a situation of such gravity,” they expressed in the note.
And they concluded: ”Without further ado, we remain at your disposal, to collaborate in the search for solutions that avoid the problem announced by the business chambers of the sector, hoping to receive a favorable response”.
”We are not going to give them more money”
Almost a week after having reached a new salary agreement, the business chambers of the AMBA shared a statement in which they assure that a salary adjustment was signed.despite not having any information regarding when the rate, or failing that, subsidies, will be adjusted to finance this increase.understanding that ”it is the State that has established that 100% of the operators’ costs are covered unfailingly in one of the two ways.
Said agreement established that the drivers will charge for November a basic salary of $1,140,000by December a salary of $1,160,000 and for January a minimum of $1,200,000.
Next, the cameras highlighted: ”We have risked this agreement, with the confidence that neither rates nor subsidies will be frozen simultaneously until Januarysince otherwise it will be impossible to pay the agreed salaries or buy the necessary inputs to sustain the service.”
From the Ministry of Transportation, on the other hand, they categorically maintain: ”we are not going to give them more money”. They also ruled out increases in the minimum ticketlocated at $370 in the AMBA. The UTA had proposed raising it to $500an increase of $130 that would have been enough to finance the salary update, according to the union. However, for the Government none of this is possible: neither increases nor subsidies.
Likewise, from the private sector they describe what could be a “complex scenario”: “if there is no tariff before the end of the year or a possible update of the subsidy, the bonus may have to be paid in installments”. In this way, it could be paid twice, something that would put all eyes on the reaction of the UTA: ”If few companies manage to divide the bonus, perhaps they will not react, but if the majority comply, a measure of strength could appear”.
