Cher: Only one celebrity broke up with her

Cher (78) spoke to Howard Stern (70) about a painful separation. She reported to the moderator that a prominent partner had only broken up with her once. “I was madly in love with Val Kilmer and he left me,” the singer recalled. When asked, she cited her ex-boyfriend’s age as the reason for the separation. “He was really young,” Cher said.

Between 1982 and 1984, Cher was with actor Val Kilmer (64). The relationship caused a stir at the time because the musician was almost 14 years older than her partner. This can no longer shock anyone: she is currently in a relationship with the American rapper Alexander Edwards (38) – and he is a whopping 40 years younger.

In the past, Cher has spoken highly of her ex-partner Kilmer. The couple met at Meryl Streep’s (75) birthday party and got together after an initial friendship. “He was a free spirit… He pushed every boundary. We had incredible times and also endured times when it wasn’t like that because we were both alpha males. We were both individuals and neither of us wanted to give that up,” said she in 2021 about her ex-partner.

This friendship still exists 40 years later. “I don’t know how we stayed friends, we just are. We didn’t try. We just were,” the music icon explained. During his illness with throat cancer in 2016, Val Kilmer often stayed in her guest house. “He’s a true artist and a Renaissance man. He was sick and that didn’t stop him,” Cher said of her good friend.
