Donald Trump: Sentencing announcement postponed

US President-elect Donald Trump (78) was found guilty of 34 counts by twelve jurors in May in the trial surrounding the concealment of hush money payments to former porn actress Stormy Daniels (45). The sentence has not yet been announced. The date for the announcement was actually scheduled for November 26th, next Tuesday. The responsible judge, Juan Merchan, has now postponed this indefinitely. So there is no new date yet.

In May, Trump became the first ex-president in US history to be convicted of a crime. A jury found it proven that the politician and entrepreneur wanted to cover up a hush money payment to Daniels with fake business documents before his first election victory in 2016. Stormy Daniels said she was relieved the case was over. Her lawyer explained that “no one is above the law.”

The announcement of the sentence has already been postponed several times. How the current postponement will continue for Trump in the case in which he has already been convicted remains unclear for the time being. His lawyers now have until December 2nd to submit an application in order to possibly overturn the verdict. Trump begins his second term in office on January 20th. It is questionable whether a punishment would then be announced for the then incumbent US President.
