Bestselling author Donna Leon: Brunetti will not die
In her crime novels about Inspector Brunetti, bestselling author Donna Leon brings Venice to life – and has done so for many years. Shouldn’t her popular character slowly retire?
Bestselling author Donna Leon (82) is now working on the 34th case involving Commissario Brunetti – and she doesn’t think about stopping. “He (Commissario Brunetti) will live at least as long as I live,” Leon told the “Süddeutsche Zeitung”. It could happen that the inspector retires or quits, but: “Brunetti will not die.”
Leon was recently awarded the honorary prize of the Bavarian Book Prize. In her crime novels about Commissario Guido Brunetti, she brought the longed-for place of Italy to life and had become a chronicler of the city of Venice, it was said.
