How a Trump impersonator made King Charles laugh

Is King Charles named after the dog breed of the same name? Of course not. But a comedian takes this as an opportunity to poke fun at the king and the US president-elect.
King Charles (76) laughs a lot. Hardly a public appearance goes by without the British monarch putting on a radiant smile – unless the occasion prohibits it. There was plenty of reason to do this at the Royal Variety Performance charity gala. According to a report by the British news agency PA, Charles couldn’t help but laugh when comedian and Trump impersonator Matt Forde cracked a joke, some of which was at the king’s expense.
In the voice of US President-elect Donald Trump, Forde repeated his comments about migrants allegedly eating pets: “They eat the cats, they eat the dogs,” shouted Forde. Addressing the king, he warned in Trump style: “Your Majesty King Charles, you are named after a spaniel, be very careful, they will eat you alive!”
Charles looked amused
The joke refers to the “King Charles Spaniel” dog breed, which is popular in Britain and is named after the English King Charles II, who sat on the throne from 1660 to 1685. Charles seemed to understand the implication.
According to the PA, comedian Forde said after the event that the king had shown him amusement. The joke had been waiting to be told for 300 years, Charles replied quickly when Forde asked whether he had committed high treason with his joke.
Camilla had to stay at home
Queen Camilla (77) had less to laugh about; she had to cancel her participation in the event at the Royal Albert Hall in London at the last moment due to an ongoing respiratory infection. Among the evening’s prominent participants were 77-year-old pop star Elton John and his partner David Furnish, who presented a musical piece from their new show “The Devil Wears Prada”.
