For the fourth time, Princess Kate is hosting a festive Christmas concert in Westminster Abbey. The guest list includes survivors of a massacre that roiled Britain.
Princess Kate has invited survivors of the Southport massacre to her traditional Christmas concert. Kensington Palace confirmed that children who survived the attack at the end of July will attend the carol concert at Westminster Abbey on December 6th.
In the knife attack at a Taylor Swift dance class in Southport near Liverpool, three girls aged six, seven and nine were stabbed by an attacker. The young man is now on trial for murder and other charges. The act caused great horror in Great Britain, and Taylor Swift also spoke out in shock on Instagram.
Right-wing extremist rioters had used false information about the attacker as a reason for riots that kept the country in suspense for days. The police and judiciary reacted with a hard hand. Hundreds of rioters have now been sentenced to prison.
Kate’s first appointment was to visit the victims’ families
This is the fourth Christmas concert Kate has invited to. The wife of the heir to the British throne, Prince William (both 42), has had to go through difficult times since the concert last year. First she had surgery on her abdomen and then she was diagnosed with cancer. She was unable to fulfill her royal obligations for months. William recently described the year as “probably the most difficult” of his life.
Kate and William had already visited the families of the Southport victims and survivors in October. It was the first official appointment she attended with her husband after announcing her cancer diagnosis. Previously she had only met briefly at King Charles III’s birthday parade. (76) shown on the balcony of Buckingham Palace. A similar appearance recently followed at the national commemoration for those killed in the world wars and other conflicts on Remembrance Sunday.
