Maite Kelly talks about the family dynamics of the Kelly Family in a new interview. She always felt like a “black sheep”.
Maite Kelly (44) sees herself as an outsider in her famous family. The singer, who became famous at a young age with the Kelly Family, said: “I was the black sheep in the family as a child.”
Maite Kelly also reports on the family dynamics from her perspective: “I couldn’t really connect with my siblings. I danced differently, I wrote differently, I had a different perspective on everything.” This circumstance was obviously not easy for the musician: “It’s never easy to feel misunderstood. I fit in.”
“Fame and money are dangerous drugs”
Maite Kelly also has fond memories of the Kelly family’s wedding. “I also saw flights of fancy in my family. Fame and money are dangerous drugs and some people can’t handle them.” The then 16-year-old also dealt with success differently: “Back then, I always had an apron on, I was cooking and cleaning. The daughter still finds loving words for her father Dan Kelly, who died in 2002. “If you, as a girl like me, had a father who taught you to accept yourself as you are, then you have immunity for life.”
Solo career since 2007
Maite Kelly now makes solo music. Since 2007 she has released six solo albums, with her greatest success being the single “Why didn’t you say no” with Roland Kaiser (72). Kelly can also often be seen on German television, including on the floor of “Let’s Dance” 2011 or on the jury of “Deutschland sucht den Superstar” 2021.
