Yamandú Orsi spoke about the relationship with Javier Milei: “It has to be very good, we have no other chance”

The elected president of Uruguay, Yamandú Orsi, spoke about the relationship that will have Javier Milei. “It has to be very good, we don’t have another chance,” he said the morning after his victory in the balojate against the ruling party. Alvaro Delgado.

“From a philosophical and ideological point of view we have quite conflicting points of view, but on the issues that call us together, the common ones, there you have to appeal to common sense,” he said.

Orsi highlighted that “one of Milei’s first signs was the dredging of the channel (access to the port of Montevideo)”, something that was “fundamental” for Uruguay. “The times that we had a lot of affinity between the governments did not necessarily (happen in) the relations, like when the bridges were cut,” he said in reference to the conflict over the pulp plants during the presidency of Néstor Kirchner.

The president-elect assured that he will invite the libertarian president to his inauguration on March 1. “The transition is very long, eternal,” said. “Obviously Javier Milei has to be there. I would love to meet him sooner and something is going to happen; We will have to have some meeting, of course. With Lula and Milei, those are two meetings that I would like to have at the summit that will be held in Uruguay on December 6,” he highlighted in dialogue with Radio Miter.

For the new Uruguayan president, it is important to maintain relations in the region: “From a geopolitical point of view you always have to be aligned with the region and we have a privileged situation because you can be the articulator in an area that sometimes appears tilted towards one side and another, but there is more inertia that remains”

I’m going to work hard, that’s the first thing they told me to do. My activity has always been executive. The initial task is to define the course and keys of the transition. Yesterday [por este domingo] I spoke with the current president [Luis Lacalle Pou] to put together, starting today, the transition route, which is long,” said Orsi, who defines himself as a representative of the moderate left.

Orsi: “From today I have my mind set on everything that needs to be done”

Yamandu Orsi He assured that he is already planning for the transition that is coming with the government of Luis Lacalle Pou (intentions that the president also expressed yesterday) and that he is already putting together the teams that will accompany him in the management that will come in these next five years.

“From today I already have my head set on everything that needs to be done. Start working on the transition and start putting together teams and, of course, be very attentive to the need of the people,” said the new president in dialogue with Radio 10 on Gustavo Sylvestre’s program.

Meanwhile, he was consulted about the possible position of the Uruguay in the region, specifically in the Mercosur and in relation to possibly being a key piece between the relationship of Brazil and Argentina – which have already had disagreements and disagreements between their leaders – taking into account the history of Uruguay in the face of conflicts of this type and its well-known positioning.

“Uruguay It has a kind of historical vocation that is that of an articulator. You have to take that vocation and, instead of seeing it as something negative, it is your opportunity,” commented Orsi, who has a very good relationship with the Brazilian president. Lula Silva based on his great friendship with his political father Jose Mujica.

On the other hand, the Argentine government was open to carrying out a bilateral agenda with the Uruguay. Despite not sharing political ideologies, both Javier Milei like Orsi have shown intentions to be on good terms. “I was never with Milei but I was with close people, with whom I have a fluid bond,” said Orsi, although without giving names but admitting that they are second and third line officials of the Argentine right-wing government.
