At the end of the seventh season, Patrick J. Adams left Suits. Now he explains the background to his exit.

With the end of the seventh season, the main actor Patrick J. Adams (43) turned his back on “Suits” (2011-2019) prematurely. the actor now reveals the real reason for his premature exit. “I didn’t take good care of my mental health and [am Ende der siebten Staffel, Anm.d.Red.] drank too much,” Adams admits to host Jesse Tyler Ferguson (49). He was “so unhappy and depressed.”

At this point, Adams already knew that his co-actress and series partner Duchess Meghan (43), then Meghan Markle, would also be leaving “Suits”. In addition, in his opinion, his main role as Mike Ross was narrated. “The only reason to stay was… money,” Adams admits. However, he publicly explained his exit from the series in 2018 with new projects that he wanted to devote himself to.

He changed for his family

Adams’ drinking behavior had a negative impact on his marriage, but also on his life as a father. “That was the point for me where I thought, ‘I think I should stop drinking because I don’t want to be that father.’ […] “It just had to happen so that all these other things were possible,” says the 43-year-old. Putting an end to his alcohol consumption was “the best thing” he ever did for himself.

The topic of money was still present. Because unlike him, his co-star Gabriel Macht (52) was in front of the camera for two more seasons of “Suits”. “Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night and think about the money Gabriel has earned in the last two years. But I haven’t regretted the decision for a second. It was the right thing for my marriage,” said the series star. “It was time to realize that money is great, but I had made enough money to live my life now.” Adams has been married to actress Troian Bellisario (39) since 2016. Two years later, their first daughter was born, followed by the second in 2021.

His return to “Suits”

After Adams decided to leave Suits in 2018, he returned for the finale a year later. Five years after the series ended, Adams could imagine a “Suits” film today. He revealed this himself last June at the ATX TV Festival in Austin, Texas. However, a film with the usual series cast depends on “a million things,” as Adams emphasized. The spin-off series “Suits – LA” is scheduled to be released next year – but with new actors.
