Royal expert suggests Haakon and Mette-Marit divorce

When Norway’s Crown Prince Haakon married Mette-Marit, he decided against adopting her son Marius Borg Høiby. Out of respect for his father, Morten Borg. Therefore, although Borg Høiby is a member of the Norwegian Royal Family, he has neither a title nor a role. And yet the negative headlines and serious allegations against the 27-year-old are causing a stir in the monarchy. He has already been arrested three times this year. Tove Taalesen criticizes the fact that the 51-year-old traveled to London with his stepson in mid-November (before his arrest) and that royal obligations in his home country were neglected during that time. “It shows that the crown prince thinks more about his family than about the country and the people he is supposed to lead,” argues Taalesen. Your suggested solution? A divorce between Haakon and Mette-Marit. “The crown prince couple may have to sacrifice their relationship to preserve the Norwegian monarchy,” said the author, who herself previously worked at the royal court.

After the recent arrest of his stepson, Haakon was forced to comment. “These are serious allegations that Marius is facing,” he said on the sidelines of a trip to Jamaica. He was there as a special ambassador for the UN development program UNDP. “Perhaps I can add that I would like to be at home with Mette today. I miss her,” Haakon continued.
Critical comments are now also increasing on a posting by the Royal Family on Instagram. “Now you have to take care of things at home and distance yourself from the crazy person you have in Skaugum or the whole monarchy will collapse,” writes one user. Skaugum is the residence of the Norwegian Crown Prince, and Marius Borg Høiby also has an apartment there. “And Mette-Marit is at home in Skaugum to dispose of evidence?” asks another user.
The love story of Crown Prince Haakon and Mette-Marit touched more than just royal fans in Norway at the beginning of the noughties. Traditional royalists were initially bothered by the fact that a waitress with an illegitimate son should marry into the family. But it didn’t take long for the two to get the fans on their side. The scandal surrounding Mette-Marit’s son is probably the most difficult that the two of them have to go through together.
