It’s official: The Chachos, the quasi-currency issued by the government of La Rioja, have an expiration date. This week, Ricardo Quintela’s administration announced when the papers that were put into circulation in the middle of the year will be discontinued to meet the payment of salaries of state and other public service workers.
The papers put into circulation by Quintela’s management came to light on July 1, amid complaints from the northern governor to the Nation against the adjustment to its coffers carried out by President Javier Milei. They were named in honor of the historic leader Vicente Ángel Peñaloza.
La Rioja will discontinue Los Chachos
It is about Debt Cancellation Bonds (Bocade), which were initially announced by the president in January of this year and finally approved by the local Legislature at the end of February.

Now, almost five months after its implementation, the Minister of Economy of La Rioja, Jorge Quinteros, announced that Los Chachos will stop circulating on December 31.
Quinteros made the announcement by announcing that the province will pay an end-of-year bonus of $200,000 that will be paid in two parts: one in December (100,000) and the second in January (100,000).
At the same time, those linked will receive 100 thousand pesos: the first installment in December (50 thousand) and the second in January (50 thousand). To this, they indicated, is added the continuity of the payment of the extra bonus that was paid in Chachos and now it will be in pesos (50 thousand pesos in December and 50 thousand in January)
The Rioja management also stated that the November salary will be settled in the first days of December; Starting on the 16th, the same will be done with the Fortnight and the half bonus and from the 23rd, the extra 50 thousand will be paid in pesos plus an extra 100 thousand bonus for plant employees. Those linked will have a bonus of $50 thousand.

Currently, Ricardo Quintela He is one of the most belligerent governors with the libertarian administration. In fact, before the elections, he had assured that he would resign from his position if Javier Milei won the elections.
