Richard Gere: His wife thought he was George Clooney

Richard Gere’s (75) wife Alejandra Silva (41) apparently confused her future husband with another, fairly famous actor when they first met. As Gere said in the interview, the Spaniard was initially completely unaware of the grizzled Hollywood eminence standing in front of her. “She didn’t watch any movies, which was great. I was very happy about that,” he revealed.

However, Silva replied in the interview that she had recognized him, although Gere apparently still didn’t believe her. “She thought I was George Clooney, but otherwise she knew exactly who I was,” Gere reports with a noticeable touch of irony, making his wife laugh. At the beginning of the interview, Silva reported that she fell in love with his role in “Time Out of Mind” (2014) before the first meeting. Which version is really true probably remains a secret between the two.

Gere and Silva are said to have met in Positano, Italy, in 2014. The actor stayed in a hotel owned by Silva’s family on the Amalfi Coast. The two celebrated a secret wedding in 2018. Two of Gere’s three sons come from their marriage: Alexander (5) and James (4). The couple wanted to move to Madrid with them, as Gere revealed on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon”. They therefore raise their children bilingually.

Gere’s current marriage is now his third: from 1991 to 1995, the “Pretty Woman” star was married to model Cindy Crawford (58). In 2002 he tied the knot with actress Carey Lowell (63) after they welcomed their son Homer into the world two years earlier. The two colleagues announced their separation in 2013 and the divorce was finalized in 2016.
